Bangladesh’s security and stability will be hampered if the forcibly displaced Rohingayas cannot be repatriated soon, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Her remarks came on Wednesday (Jun 26) during a question-and-answer session in parliament.
Responding to a query by Awami League MP Nur Mohammad of Kishoreganj-2, she said, “There’s apprehension that our security and stability will be hampered, if we can’t send them back soon.”
Bangladesh from the very beginning of the unfolding of the crisis opened diplomatic efforts for a permanent solution for the Rohingyas, Hasina said before adding “It is very tough for us to arrange food, clothes and accommodation for the over 11 lakh [1.1 million] Myanmar nationals for an indefinite time.”
