Enough money in banks but not for looting: Hasina

Photo: PIDIn response to allegations of liquidity crisis in banks, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that there was enough money in the banks, but it was not for looting.
Her remarks came while addressing the Parliament before the passage of the supplementary budget for 2018-19 fiscal on Monday (Jun 17).
Hasina, the Leader of the House, was speaking on behalf of ailing Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
“Many are saying that there is no money in banks. Why there should be no money? Of course, there is money in banks,” she said before adding, “But that money is not for looting."
Referring to fund embezzlements from banks during the BNP regime, the Awami League chief said, “Many have looted a lot from banks in the past. Some of them have left the country and some are in prison for corruption.”
The prime minister’s comments come after the opposition on Sunday (Jun 16) came down heavily on the government for its failure to check money laundering, soaring loan defaults, and black money. They also alleged that the banking sector suffering a lot.
