A man was killed in Dhaka late on Tuesday after a car, with an MP’s son allegedly behind the wheels, ran over him.
The incident was reported from the flyover in the city’s Mohakhali area around 10:30pm, said Kafrul police OC Sikdar Mohammad Shamim.
“He was hit by a car on the flyover and died on the spot,” said the police officer before adding that victim has been identified as 45-year-old Selim Bepari.
An officer at the Kafrul police station said that the sedan, which ran over Selim, was being driven by the son of a member of parliament from Noakhali and that the police have started a case.
The car and its driver were, however, not detained, he said.
OC Shamim, however, said they have noted the car’s license plate number (Dhaka Metro Ga 13-7655). “We will get the details after running it through the BRTA.”
Victim Selim, who hailed from Barishal, used to work as a chauffeur.
“The police have been able to obtain the car’s (license plate) number. So, we believe those responsible will be tracked,” his son-in-law Arif Bhuiyan told Bangla Tribune
Members of the victim’s family, asking not to be named, said that the MP’s family have already reached out to them for a settlement and asked not to file a complaint with the police.
