The father of Jishan, a four-year-old boy who was seriously injured by a stone hurled through a train window, has sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's help for better treatment of his son abroad.
Jishan's father, Abdus Salam, sent a letter, along with a newspaper report, to Hasina that was received by the mail section of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
In his letter, Salam wrote: "My family members were going from Rajshahi to Dhaka by the Padma train on May 5, 2019. My younger son, Jishan, was severely injured when he was hit by a stone pelted through the window of the train, while it was (moving) in the middle of Jamtoil and Monsur stations.
"At first, we went to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, where the doctor suggested taking him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital when his condition deteriorated," the letter added.
Later, many electronic and print media reported the incident.
"Now, he is being treated under the supervision of Prof Dr Momtazul Haque, a neurosurgery specialist," Salam wrote, adding that Jishan's life is in danger because of a fractured bone and brain hemorrhage.
According to D Engineers’ Club (DEC), a non-profit voluntary platform, more than two hundred commuters, including railway staff, were injured in more than 15 incidents of stone-throwing in the last 12 months.
According to the Railways Act, 1890, if a person unlawfully throws or causes to fall or strike at, against, into, or upon any rolling-stock forming part of a train, any wood, stone or other matter or thing with intent, or with knowledge that he is likely, to endanger the safety of any person being in or upon such rolling-stock, or in or upon any other rolling-stock forming part of the same train, he shall be punished with transportation for life or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to ten years.
