Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to make a stopover in New Delhi on her way back home after visits to Japan, Saudi Arabia and Finland, according to people familiar with the matter.
A highly-placed source in the ruling Awami League told Bangla Tribune that it was being mulled and yet to be finalised.
Hasina is scheduled to fly for Tokyo on Tuesday (May 28), where she will attend ‘The Future of Asia’ conference organised by Nikkei as the keynote speaker.
She will also have a bilateral meeting with Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and attend a roundtable with top businessmen.
The president of Japan’s development arm, JICA, will also call on the prime minister.
The foreign ministry said on Sunday that Japan is set to sign $2.5 billion official development assistance (ODA) for Bangladesh during the visit.
From Tokyo, Hasina will go to Jeddah to attend the OIC summit on May 31 and will then go to Finland. She will return to Dhaka on Jun 8.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told the media that Hasina will spend the Eid in the Scandinavian country on a personal visit.
