No major terror threats during Eid: DMP

Speaking to the media on Thursday after inspecting security measures at the National Eidgah, where the main congregation will be held, Commissioner Assaduzzaman Mia claimed there were no major threat of militant attacks.
“However, strict security measures have been taken consider previous attacks, including the 2016 attack in Sholakia and other international terror incidents in mind,” he said.
Multi-level security measures have been adopted for the venue of the main Eid congregation, DMP Commissioner said.
Males devotees will be allowed to only bring prayer mats and umbrellas, he said before adding any one entering the National Eidgah will have to go through a search by security personnel.
Security measures have been taken across the city, which includes installing CCTV cameras, deployment of dog and bomb squad, SWAT and plainclothes police, said Commissioner Mia.
Police will step up security for offices, malls and in residential areas across Dhaka as a huge number of Eid holidaymakers will leave the capital, said the DMP chief.
