Law Minister Anisul HuqExpressing concern over abuse of the Digital Security Act, the European Union recommends proper monitoring over how the law is used in Bangladesh, says Law Minister Anisul Huq.

Speaking to the media on Sunday (May 19) after a meeting with chiefs of EU member state missions, he said ''We have already discussed with home ministry and asked the minister to appoint a senior police official to monitor the cases filed under the act.''

The EU wants to assist Bangladesh in elevating the status of Human Rights Commission from Grade B to A, according to Huq.

The EU representatives also advised to enable a search committee for appropriate appointments from civil society in 'Human Rights Commission', he added.

''The Digital Security Act is meant for curbing cybercrimes, not to muzzle press freedom,” the law minister said responding to a query.
