RAJUK, the city development authority, said that the 22 storied Navana Tower at in Dhaka’ Gulshan-1 will be closed down since the buildings fire safety measures are inadequate and overall construction is faulty.
However, before closing it down, a committee has been formed which has already begun an investigation.
There is a huge discrepancy between the file at RAJUK and the information provided by the owners. They could not produce any approved design.
Fire service has put up a notice calling the building ‘risky’.
The buildings emergency exit is narrow and fire safety measures are inadequate.
RAJUK chairman, Abdur Rahman, told Bangla Tribune, “Several other buildings also have faults; we are investigating them.”
The building’s first to the fifth floor occupies a shopping complex. From sixth to the fifteenth floor occupies offices and from sixteenth till twenty-second are apartments.
An official of Royal Diamond, told Bangla Tribune, “If this is closed then we will incur huge losses because finding a new shop will be difficult.”
