The government is mulling over providing primary school students with uniforms and stationeries in addition to text books.
Sources said that primary and mass education ministry would be undertaking the move in a bid to stop students from dropping out of school.
If the project is finalised, the students will be receiving uniforms and other necessities free by the year 2020.
“A draft for a project has been prepared where the students will be provided with all the necessities including copies, pens and shoes so that primary students don’t drop out,” Primary and Mass Education Additional Secretary Md Gias Uddin Ahmed told Bangla Tribune.
“However, this is all in the planning phase. Nothing has been finalised yet,” he added.
In 2011, the primary education department started the mid-day meal in school where the students are provided with a proper nutritious meal. A national guideline is being finalised to implement it throughout the country.
In 2010, the government started distributing books for free to primary school students in order to make education accessible to all. This year the government distributed over 350 million textbooks to students.
