DUCSU begins its journey after 28 years

The newly-elected 25-member executive body of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) led by its Vice President Nurul Haque Nur have officialy taken charge on Saturday (Mar 23).

The executive body convened a meeting a little after 11am ahead of officially assuming duties, DUCSU building’s chief Administrative Officer Abul Kalam Azad told Bangla Tribune.

Following the meeting, the DUCSU leaders will go to Dhanmondi 32 to pay respects to Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor and DUCSU President Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman is chairing the function at DUCSU Bhaban.

Earlier, Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani told the media that thirteen-member executive bodies of 18 residential hall unions will also take charges.

A total of 25 leaders of DUCSU and 234 hall union representatives were elected after 28 years. The last DUCSU polls were held in 1990.

On Saturday (Mar 23), Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC) told the media that DUCSU Vice-President-elect Nurul Haque Nur will formally accept the duties of his position ending all speculations.

“We have decided to accept the duties formally to respect the general student’s mandate,”  BGSRPC convenor Hassan Al Mamun said.
