Traffic on Pragati Sarani was relatively normal on Thursday (Mar 21) given that there were no road blockades.

“We didn’t receive any news of roads being blocked in Rampur, Badda and Pragati Sarani,” said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Badda Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner MA Ahmed Humayun.

Previously on Wednesday (Mar 20), the students halted their protests till Mar 28 after talking to Dhaka North Mayor Atiqul Islam and DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.

The students of North South University, United International University, American International University of Bangladesh, however, refused to back down.

The road safety movement was sparked once more after a first-year student BUP Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury was run over by a Shuprovat bus on Tuesday (Mar 19).

Last year, two students being run over by a bus gave rise to countrywide protests with students blocking the roads and boycotting classes.
