Firefighters work at the scene of a fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse in Dhaka, Bangladesh February 21, 2019. REUTERSAfter the tragic death of 67 persons in a blaze in Chawkbazar, several explanations about the course of fire is going around though no one is able to pinpoint the real reason for the fire.

Witnesses say that the fire started when the gas cylinder of a private car, stuck in jam on the Churihatta intersection, exploded. While others are saying that a gas cylinder on a pick up van burst and started the fire.

However, everyone is unanimous in stating that the chemicals stored in Churihatta turned one explosion into a conflagration.

Fire Service officials are unwilling to say anything without a proper investigation.

A local called Masud Rana said: fire from an exploding gas cylinder in a car hit the cylinders stored on a van and they started to explode, sending flames all over.

The car in question was burnt to cinder.

The driver’s dead body was recovered by the fire department.

All the ground flood shops of Waheda Mansion, a nearby shopping mall, were gutted. The first floor of the mansion held a warehouse for body spray and these exploded during the fire.

Reportedly, the warehouse was run secretly by a man from the Bihari background.

Deputy Director of fire service and civil defence (operations) Debashish Bardhan told Bangla Tribune: the investigation will begin from Friday (Feb 22).

We have photos and other evidence and soon the actual cause of fire will be discovered, he assured.
