‘Old Dhaka buildings are self-made explosives’

The fire department faced problems in dousing the blaze in Churihatta, he observed.

“Old Dhaka has to be restructured, otherwise, there may be bigger accidents in the future.”

On Feb 20 night, fire spread after a cylinder exploded in a pick-up van. Eventually, 37 units of the fire department managed to tame the flames after struggling for four and a half hours.

Till Thursday afternoon, 70 bodies were recovered.
