BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed sorrow for those who lost their lives in the Chawkbazar fire saying that people are losing their lives due to irresponsibility and mismanagement,.
His comments came on Thursday (Feb 21) after laying flower wreaths at the language martyrs graveyard in Azimpur.
Praying for the souls of the dead in the fire, he said: “The government is failing in all departments; they only want to stay in power at any cost.”
Terming Ekushey as a landmark event in the history of Bangladesh, the veteran BNP politician, said: “On Feb 21, 1952, our youth gave their lives to establish Bengali as the mother tongue; the seeds of independence were sown that day.”
Mirza Fakhrul also demanded the scrapping of the Dec 30 election and holding of a re-election.
