Gas supply to most part of the capital will remain turned off for 12 hours, announced Titas Gas Transmisson and Supply Company on Monday (Feb 18).

The supply will be kept suspended from 6pm Tuesday (Feb 19) to 6am Wednesday (Feb 20) due to maintenance work including valve replacement in the gas pipeline and to facilitate construction of the metro rail project, it said.

“Due to the ongoing metro rail construction, gas pipeline at the Shahbag intersection will require replacement, for which the gas supply will be kept halted,” Titas officials told a media brief held at its headquarters is Dhaka’s Kawran Bazar.

The disruption will affect residents of Mirpur, Shyamoli, Agargaon, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Hazaribag, Dhaka University, BUET, Shahbag, Green Road, Minto Road, Bangabhaban, Ganabhaban, National Parliament and adjacent areas, Nandipara, Gopibag, Swamibag, Rampura, Banasri, Motijheel, Kamlapur, Monipuri Para, Siddheshwari, Segubagicha, Tejgaon, Bashabo and the entire old Dhaka.

Gas supply for all residential, commercial and industrial clients will be turned off, added the officials.

In Dhanmondi, Mogbazar, Dhaka University and Khilgaon areas gas valves will be replaced through the pipeline other than the repair work to the leakages.

Titas has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience to the Dhaka dwellers.

Engineer (Operations) Md Kamruzzaman Khan, General Manager (Planning and Development) Engineer Abdul Wahab Talukder, DGM (Pipeline Department) Engineer Samiul Haq Khan and other top officials of Titas were present during the media call.

Earlier on Friday (Feb 16) gas supply to a large part of the capital including Ashulia, Savar, Mirpur and Mohammadpur were disrupted when a gas line was snapped in Ashulia. It remained disrupted in most of the affected areas until Sunday (Feb 17).
