This will be his first interaction with the diplomats in a group.

He will also have courtesy calls on ambassadors of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Britain, European Union and the Netherlands tomorrow.

“It is a routine to brief the diplomats about government policy, current situation and other matters,” said an official.

Through the process, the diplomats have a clear understanding about the sitting government and its policies while they can ask questions about different issues, he said.

Many governments have so far congratulated the new regime and we expect more to come, added.

Abdul Momen became the foreign minister on Jan 7 after his winning in the national election held on Dec 30.

FM flies to Delhi to attend JCC

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen is scheduled to visit India on Feb 7-8 to attend the fifth Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting held in New Delhi.

This will be the first visit of newly appointed foreign minister as he was invited by his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj.

“We have an inter-ministerial meeting about the visit today and expect to have a very fruitful visit,” Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque told Bangla Tribune.

Bangladesh has robust engagement with India and the entire gamut of issues will be discussed at the JCC, the secretary said.

The foreign minister on Sunday at an interaction with journalists said that his first visit would be India.

Bangladesh always maintains a strong neighbourhood policy where India has a major focus.

Dhaka has agreements and other deals in almost all areas with Delhi and both the countries want to execute them expeditiously.
