Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad. FILE PHOTOJatiya Party chief HM Ershad has been relieved of his post as the special envoy to the prime minister.

In a circular, issued by the Cabinet Division on Jan 7 states that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ended Ershad’s appointment as her special envoy.

Following the Cabinet Division’s circular, the Parliament Secretariat announced Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad as the leader of the opposition of the 11th parliament on Jan 9.

Earlier Ershad announced himself as the leader of the opposition and GM Quader as the deputy leader. The former dictator also wrote to Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury to take necessary steps in this regard.

Former Dictator Ershad was made the special envoy to the prime minister at the beginning of Awami Leagues previous tenure in 2014’s January.

The ruling Awami League won an astounding landslide on Dec 30 polls bagging 257 seats while its Grand Alliance ally Jatiya Party won 22 seats and chose to become the official opposition in the house.

BNP and its alliances including the Jatiya Oikya Front managed only eight seats in the election, which they claim to be a lopsided one

Rejecting the result, the BNP and allies have demanded fresh polls and their MPs elect haven’t taken oath.
