New govt to take Dhaka-London relations to strategic partnership

New Bangaldesh HIgh Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem met with British Minjster for Asia nad Pacific Rt Hon Mark Field on Thursday (Jan 10).The newly elected government will take Bangladesh-UK relationship to a fresh new level of strategic and economic partnership.

Bangladesh’s new High Commissioner Saida Muna Tasneem said this Thursday (Jan 10) while she had a meeting with Mark Field, British Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific at UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Tasneem expressed her own resolve to unfold new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation in Bangladesh-UK relations in the meeting, said a press release issued Friday (Jan 11).

She briefed Minister Field that a major focus of her tenure in the UK would be to increase and diversify Bangladesh’s bilateral trade with the UK, attract greater British investments in mega-infrastructure projects, energy, IT and services sectors in Bangladesh, and enhance strategic level cooperation including in defence, security and regional connectivity.

The High Commissioner also put forward a number of proposals towards creating a strong and vibrant culture and sports connectivity between the two Commonwealth nations specially through cricket, football, curry industry and the talented new generations of the British-Bangladeshi community in the UK.

In response, Mark Field, commending Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for including younger generation of politicians in her new Cabinet, hoped to see Bangladesh move forward towards greater growth and prosperity.

Senior officials of Bangladesh High Commission London including Defence Attache Brigadier General AKM Aminul Haque, Commercial Counsellor SM Jakaria Huq and First Secretary Md. Shafiul Alam were present during the meeting.
