Government’s six laudable initiatives for freedom fightersThe government has taken six important decisions for the welfare of freedom fighters. They are – increase of monthly stipend for freedom fighters, accommodation for landless and insolvent freedom fighters, establishment of a freedom fighters’ complex in all districts, identifying graves of unknown freedom fighters, building of a liberation war museum and construction of ten thousand flats all over the country for freedom fighters.
A project has been passed at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) to identify mass graves and ensure their preservation.
The Ministry Of Liberation War feels that the graves of freedom fighters scattered all over the country have to be preserved for progeny. To preserve 20 thousand graves, the expected expenditure will be an estimated Tk 4.6 billion, provided by the government.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. In 484 upazilas, 2,971 homes will be constructed for freedom fighters at a cost of Tk 2.71 billion.
The homes have been constructed already and the government formed a committee to select landless and destitute freedom fighters.
The plan to construct a freedom fighters’ complex will be at a cost of Tk. 1.52 billion. In addition, the government has decided that if a freedom fighter dies in his home then the family will get Tk 30,000 for burial and Tk 50,000 if the person dies in another district.
This proposal has been sent to the ministry of finance for approval.
