The nation remembers its valiant sons and daughters who sacrificed their blood and honour during a nine-month War of Independence in 1971 to free the country from the Pakistani junta.

On Sunday, (Dec 16), people of all ages, creed and culture flocked to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to celebrate the 48th Victory Day.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid wreaths at the Memorial in the morning followed by a guard of honour by the armed forces.

The day is a public holiday.  The national flag was hoisted atop government, semi-government, autonomous and private offices across the country.

Socio-cultural and professional bodies and institutions across the country, as well as Bangladesh missions abroad, are marking the day with different programmes.

Bangla Tribune Photographer Sazzad Hossain took the snaps of the Victory Day celebration around the capital.
