Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials are in action at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan on July 21, 2018. FILE PHOTOThe Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has briefed the Election Commission (EC) over the force’s capacity and the budget requirement to carry out its duty during the 11th Parliamentary Election, says an EC official.
“The Commission has sought to know the RAB’s capacity and its preparation on polls-time duty and the RAB have informed the EC on the matter,” said the official preferring to remain anonymous.
The development came after the EC held a meeting with officials of law enforcement agencies in Dhaka on Monday (Dec 10).
Representatives of Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh, Coastguard and Ansar attended the one-and-a-half-hour meeting.
Details on polls-time duty and subsequent budgets dominated the meeting.
RAB, as a striking force, proposed a budget to be required to carry out polls-time duty for 10 days.
The EC has planned to allocate as many as Tk 4.4 billion to maintain law and order situations during the Dec 30 election.
