Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.Chief Election Commissioner, K M Nurul Huda, has said that from today, Dec 10, the election time hurly burly will begin. Addressing judicial magistrates of the 11th national parliament elections, he said: “you will carry out your responsibility as per the constitution and laws.’
“As an independent, neutral judge you must apply the discretion of a judge.”
In the first briefing, the CEC addressed 215 judicial magistrates and in three stages, will brief 640 magistrates.
Do not do anything impetuous or driven by emotion or anger, he cautioned, adding: “we want an environment of reliance, not terror.”
The commission is bound to the voters, nation, political parties and the constitution to hold a proper election, he observed.
“More than six hundred judicial magistrates will be on the field from Dec 29 to 1 Jan 1.”
Saying that punitive measures as per the 1991 law will be taken in case of laxity or partiality, he added: “we must ensure that the winner comes to parliament after getting the vote and not through any other nefarious way.”
