Deadline for pulling out of polls races expires Sunday

The 11th Parliamentary election is slated for Dec 30.The deadline for aspirants of the 11th parliamentary elections to pull themselves out of the race expires on Sunday (Dec 9).
Candidates will not be allowed to quit the race after 5pm that day, according to Election Commission officials.
As many as 3,065 aspirants filed nominations to contest the national election slated for Dec 30.
The 39 registered political parties floated 2,567 candidates for the 300 seats while 498 independent aspirants submitted applications to run in the election.
The ruling Awami League fielded 281 candidates in 264 seats and its arch rival BNP 696 contestants in 295 constituencies.
In case of multiple candidates in a constituency, the political parties will have to inform the returning officer and the Commission about its final contestant by Sunday.
During the Dec 2 scrutiny, the returning officers accepted 2,279 nomination papers and trashed 786 others.
But 543 petitions were filed with the EC, the appellate authority, seeking that the decisions of returning officers be overturned.
Following hearings on the petitions, the Commission reinstated nominations of more than 200 aspirants.
