Four among the five election commissioners voted against clearing the former premier’s nominations.

Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder voted for the incarcerated BNP chairperson.

Earlier on Saturday, the third and final day of hearing aspirants’ appeal against initial cancellation of nominations, the EC held off the decision on Khaleda’s candidacy until the end of the day.

On Dec 2, the returning officers scrapped all three of her nominations on grounds of a High Court rule that rendered anyone with more than two years of jail sentence ineligible for the polls slated for Dec 30.

Khaleda filed nominations to run for polls in the Bogura-6, Bogura-7 and Feni-1 constituencies, for which BNP had already fielded alternative candidates anticipating possible cancellation of her nominations.

Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will run from Bogrua-6 seat, Jubo Dal President Rafiqul Islam Majnu in Feni-1 and Morshed Milton in Bogura-7.
