The general election is slated for Dec 30.The Election Commission has decided to instruct the home ministry to withdraw Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Humayan Kabir, according to people familiar with the matter.
The decision, ahead of the Dec 30 national elections, comes after the Commission removed the Narayanganj superintendent of police last week. Earlier, two officers-in charge (OCs) were withdrawn upon the EC’s order.
Sources confirmed, Commissioner Kabir was among the officers, who were included in the BNP’s written complaint filed with the EC.
According to them, the EC has received reports on his controversial role during the Khulna City Corporation election in May this year.
EC officials said that the home ministry will be notified soon over the decision.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam, however, declined to comment.
“It’s the concern of chief election commissioner and the EC secretary. Any comments on this will have to come from them,” he said.
