US envoy visits Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban

Earl Robert Miller. FILE PHOTOUS Ambassador in Dhaka Earl Robert Miller on Tuesday visited makeshift camps in Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban where a huge number of displaced Rohingyas took shelter.
He visited Rohingyas in the zero line area of Tumbru bordering area under Naikhangchhari upazila in Bandarban. Later, he visited Rohingya camps at Kutupalang and Balukhali under Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar, reports state news agency BSS.
Officials concerned and representatives of different national and international NGOs were present.
Talking to reporters after the visit, Miller said Bangladesh has set an example by sheltering the huge number of Rohingya people.
He said the US government will continue its support to Bangladesh in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
Miller said the Myanmar government must create a congenial atmosphere for the safe return of the displaced Rohingyas to their homeland from Bangladesh and their rights should be established to ensure voluntary repatriation of the Myanmar nationals.
He said the US government continued its efforts along with the international community to create an atmosphere for safe and voluntary repatriation of Rohingya people.
The US envoy said Bangladesh incurs an irreparable environmental loss in Cox’s Bazar after giving shelter to Rohingyas there.
He said the US government will extend cooperation to Bangladesh to compensate the environmental loss.
