PoliceSince police carry out a variety of tasks including, taking cases, investigation, tackling radicals, dealing with cyber-crime, security for VIPs, they often need training and skill development.
An official of the police headquarters say that officers mostly get training due to certain limitations.
In some cases, constables are also sent abroad. The countries they are sent to include: USA, Singapore, Haiti, India, Dubai, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Germany, UAE, France, UK, China, South Korea, Jordan and others.
To counter extremists, police members are given special training on unarmed combat and other areas at special training centres in Khagrachari.
Other special trainings focus on money laundering, cyber-crimes, forensic techniques etc.
Reportedly, through ‘training need assessment’ the yearly skill development plan is made for members from constable to sub inspector.
To counter threats from radicals, the specialised APBN training centre has been launched while commando training is given to police members. After completion, police members are carrying out joint missions with the SWAT team.
AIG Sohel Rana of the communication department of police says, “To increase professionalism, there’s no alternative.”
According to demand, trainings are being held in and outside the country, he added.
On 26 September last, deputy commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, Mohibul Islam Khan, gave a Facebook status, saying: all officials of the unit were trained overseas.”
Foreign police specialists also come to exchange views with local counterparts, the post added.
