New air force unit to cut cost in air-defence. FILE PHOTOA 207 Maintenance, Repairing and Overhauling (MRO) unit is being formed to fix and take care of all air defence equipment.
Formed with 190 persons, the unit will have 17 vehicles and reduce the cost of maintenance that was being incurred so far by sending equipment to be fixed overseas.
The proposal of the air force was approved by the PM and sent to the cabinet on 11 October where it was passed on 1November.
Cabinet and reform secretary, N M Ziaul Alam, told Bangla Tribune: “this will have 190 posts plus other vehicles and the yearly expenditure will be Tk. 8 crore 77 lakh 65 thousand.”
In the past, Bangladesh had to spend Tk. 125 crore 70 lakh between 2011-2015 for this purpose.
Once this unit is established, the expenditure will fall dramatically.
