EC seeks information from polls observers

On Saturday (Nov 17), the EC has written to 118 election observer organisations, registered with it, asking them to respond by Nov 21.
“Foreign observers have been asked to apply through the foreign ministry as the EC plans to complete their formalities by the first week of December,” said EC Assistant Director (public relation) Asadul Haque.
In the application, the organisations willing to observe the polls will have to mention the number of their observers and the areas they will be working at.
As many as 8,874 observers from 35 local organisations and only four foreign observers monitored the 10th Parliament Election in 2014, according to the EC.
Some 159,000 local observers and 593 foreign observers monitored the 2008 election while 218,000 local and 225 foreign observers watched the 2001 polls.
