Proof of favouritism during the upcoming national polls will invite stern punitive measures, the Election Commission (EC) has warned the election officials.

Election Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury told EC officials on Saturday (Nov 17) during the inauguration of a training programme for trainers at Agargaon’s Electoral Training Institute.

“Impartiality is essential in this election and all other elections for that matter. We want you to stand firm on your neutrality irrespective of political parties and philosophies,” he told the polls officials.

Election Commission will take stern disciplinary actions if it finds proof that officials compromised their impartiality, warned Chowdhury.
“The upcoming polls will be participatory and competitive. It’s your job to ensure that all candidates get equal opportunity,” he said before adding, “People of our country, as well as the whole world, is watching and anticipating the upcoming polls. We must demonstrate impartiality and professionalism."

"A fair election is essential for the country’s future and a mass-mandated government can only be formed through a fair election, " said the election commissioner.
