The US Senate has confirmed Earl Robert Miller as the next ambassador to Bangladesh.
He, however, must still be officially sworn in before arriving in Dhaka to present his credentials to President Md Abdul Hamid, says a Facebook post by the embassy in Dhaka.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Miller is serving as the envoy to Botswana since 2014, according to US Department of State.
Prior to Botswana, he served as consul general in Johannesburg and regional security officer at the US missions in New Delhi, Baghdad and Jakarta.
A former US Marine Corps officer, Miller’s broad background in counter-terrorism, economic development, and public health, coupled with his work overseeing some of the largest overseas security programme has qualified him to serve as envoy to Bangladesh, says the state department.
