The Election Commission is awaiting the legal clearance to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the upcoming general election, says its chief KM Nurul Huda.

Addressing a training session for election officials on Saturday, the chief election commissioner said that e-voting will be only introduced if the machines are found flawless.

"People will have doubts and questions about it. We will try to address those matters," said Huda

He also said that both voting and vote-counting will be easier with the EVMs.

There won’t be any vote-rigging, he said.

In response to political leaders’ comments on EVM, CEC said, “It’s better to learn about it first before commenting.”

“We must move towards modern technologies, we have to evolve from the manual voting process,” he added.

Electoral Training Institute’s Director General Mostofa Faruk presided over the opening segment of the training session where 50 election officials are participating.
