DU calls meeting on DUCSU election on Sunday

Election to the DUCSU has long been a demand from the DU students since the last DUCSU polls took place on Jun 6, 1990.Authorities at Dhaka University have called a meeting with the students’ organisations to discuss on a possible election to the DU Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).
The move came two days after a contempt of court petition was filed with the High Court against the vice-chancellor (VC), proctor and treasurer of DU for not complying with its directive over holding the DUCSU election on Wednesday (Sept 12).
“A meeting between the university’s Environment Council and the different students’ bodies will be held as the VC’s office at 11am on Sunday (Sept 16),” DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told Bangla Tribune on Friday (Sept 14).
Rabbani said that the authorities will seek students’ opinion and their cooperation on how to hold a DUCSU polls.
Earlier on Thursday, the proctor told Bangla Tribune that they have begun updating the voter lists for a possible DUCSU polls in all dormitories of the university.
According to the DU sources, DUCSU was established in 1924. Till 1953, DUCSU VPs were selected. The first DUCSU election was held in 1953.
