RAB outlines Eid security measures

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) says it has adopted several security measures to ensure safe journey for Eid holidaymakers.
Bangladeshi Muslims will celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha on Aug 22 while the three-day official holiday starts the previous day.
At a media briefing on Saturday, RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed said their special measures started from Aug 13 and will continue till Aug 26.
The elite police unit will give traffic updates on Facebook from Saturday so that Eid holidaymakers so that they can make their travel plans accordingly, he said.
Every four hours, Rab headquarters will give updates on its Facebook page on the overall situation and schedules of bus, train, launch and highways in the country, Ahmed said.
Apart from the headquarters, 14 RAB units will also give traffic updates on the highways of their respective zones every four hours, he added.
“A total of 245 patrol teams have been deployed across the country with 56 more kept as reserved strike forces. As many 20 security posts have been installed at the exit points of Dhaka and on the Meghna and Madhumuti bridges. Security has been ratcheted up at the Doualtdia and Mawa ferry landing stations,” said the RAB chief.
He said they were anticipating rush on highways when readymade garments factories will go on Eid holiday and that they were prepared to cope up with the traffic.
RAB check posts will remain on the highways until Aug 25 to avoid accidents following Eid holidays, added Ahmed.
