Hasina, Modi to meet at BIMSTEC Summit

FILE PHOTOAmid NRC dispute in Assam, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to have a meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi later this month.
Both the leaders will attend the two-day fourth BIMSTEC summit to be held in Kathmandu on August 30-31.
Confirming the participation of the prime minister, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque said, “We expect to have good summit in Nepal.”
Another official seeking anonymity said, “The political relations between the two countries are at the highest at this moment and both the leaders can discuss any cooperation or dispute.”
Whether the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam issue would be discussed in the meeting, he said, “Any issue under the sky can be discussed between the two prime ministers.”
This will be their second meeting this year as Hasina visited Shanti Niketan in West Bengal in May when they had a bilateral meeting.
The current chair of BIMSTEC, Nepal, is organising its fourth summit to be inaugurated on Aug 30 and on the second day there would be retreat where all the leaders of seven countries will take part.
Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Bhutan, Maldives and Thailand are the members of BIMSTEC.
