Chairman of Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh Sardar A. Razzaque has been given the World Down Syndrome Day Award for his contributions to creating awareness about the genetic disorder.
Sardar Razzaque received the award from President of Down Syndrome International, UK Venessa dos Santos at a gala function in the 13th World Down Syndrome Congress held in Glasgow, Scotland recently, a press release said on Sunday.
This was for the first time any individual or organisation of Bangladesh was given the World Down Syndrome Day Award, the release said.
Sardar Razzaque played a pioneering role in observing the World Down Syndrome Day on Mar 21, 2014, the 9th in the world and the first in Bangladesh.
In its continuation, he constituted a platform named “The Down Syndrome Parent Support Group” comprising Down syndrome children and their guardians.
Razzaque later formed the Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh and through these activities, Bangladesh was linked with the world Down syndrome community.
In recognition to his efforts, the Down Syndrome International honoured him with the World Down Syndrome Day Award.
