Masud Rana film production caught in intrigue and twists

Masud RanaLast year, Jaaz Multimedia made a grand declaration that famous Bangladeshi fictional spy, Masud Rana is coming to the screen. In that aim, channel-i began search for the right person through a talent hunt competition.

Jaaz and Channel-i’s competition is called: Ke hobe Masud Rana? The audition began last November and the selection process is being shown on TV from August 2.

The selection process has already sparked huge backlash in social media but at the end of the competition, it has come to light that it’s not Jaaz, but channel-i which is looking for Masud Rana.

Channel i will make the film based on a novel by the writer Kazi Anwar Hossain, confirmed Habibul Huda Pitu, head of the channel’s communication and publicity. 

“It does not have to be made by Jaaz; anyone can make Masud Rana; we will select a person from the competition and then make the movie.”

Jaaz Multimedia’s chief executive, Alimullah Khokon, says: “anyone can be Masud Rana; the film is now being made internationally.”

Reportedly, the films US-based producer, director and fighting team recently visited Bangladesh and were present at an audition where the actor from the film, Dhaka Attack, A B M Sumon and Roshan, the hero of the film Beporoa, took part.

The reported budget of Masud Rana is Tk. 83 crore; stars are coming from Hollywood. A villain from The Matrix, Daniel Bernard is supposed to act in the film along with Mickey Rourke and others.

Jaaz also claims that Shraddha Kapoor will also feature in the film. The notable roles in the film are Masud Rana, Rupa, Sulata, Kabir Chowdhury and Rahat Khan.

The film, based on the first book, Dhangsha Pahar, is supposed to be directed by Hollywood based Asif Akbar. The film will be called Masud Rana in Bangla and MR-9 in English with shooting done in Thailand, Mauritius and Bangladesh and the tentative date for release is 2020.
