Tareque Masud. FILE PHOTOThursday (Dec 6) was the 62nd birthday of acclaimed film maker, Tareque Masud, who was born in Faridpur in 1956.
While every year, his birthday is celebrated with fanfare, this year it was comparatively restrained.
The reason is the death of noted photographer Anwar Hossain who died on Dec 1.
Artistes, film makers and people in the creative arena were in a state of mourning and refrained from celebrating the birthday.
Communication official of the Tareque Masud Foundation, Aftab Hossain, said, “With the death of celebrated photographer Anwar Hossain, we decided to postpone birthday celebration.”
Anwar HossainPaying respect to Tareque Masud, Google launched Doodle which features a clay bird. A pioneer of alternative movies, Masud, was killed in a road accident on Aug 13, 2013.
At that time, his wife, Catherine, was injured and several others died.
Masud triggered a new wave of introspective films in Bangladesh with Adam Surat, Muktir Gaan, Matir Moina, Antarjatra.
Matir Moina or The Clay Bird had the privilege to be presented as the first Bangladeshi movie at the Oscars.
