Probes open into Ctg gas pipeline blast

Seven people were killed and at least 10 injured after a gas pipeline exploded near a house in Chattogram’s Patharghata.Two separate inquiries have been opened over the gas pipeline explosion at Chattogram that left seven people dead and at least 10 injured on Sunday (Nov 17).
“The Chattogram district administration has formed a five-member probe panel with Additional District Magistrate AZM Shariful Islam as head,” said Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Elius Hossain.
“The committee has been asked to submit their findings within seven working days,” he added.
The officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, a member of Chittagong Fire Service, an employee of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company and a representative of the city corporation will also sit on the panel.
Meanwhile, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Assistant Commissioner Nobel Chakma, confirmed that the police have opened another three-member probe panel led by Deputy Commissioner Mehedi Hasan.
CCC bears the medical expenses of the injured
The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) will bear the medical costs of the people injured in the gas pipeline blast, said Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin
The city corporation’s public relations officer Rafikul Islam said that the mayor gave Tk100,000 as compensation to each of the deceased's families and the city corporation will also bear burial expenses.
The explosion was reported in front of Barua Bhaban at the city’s Patharghata area on Sunday morning.
Police said, the blast caused a wall of the house to collapse rescue operation was underway.
