BulbuliWhile the cyclone Bulbul was heading towards the coastline with all its ferocity, a girl child was born at a disaster shelter centre.

The baby was born on the midnight of Nov 9 at Mithakhali Primary School shelter in Mongla, Bagerhat and was named Bulbuli – marking a similarity with the name of the cyclone.

The UNO of Mongla, Md. Rahat Mannan, says: “the condition of the mother, Hanufa Begum, was critical and we had sent mid-wife and a doctor from the upazilla health complex.”

After the baby was born safely, she was named after the cyclone by her father, Bayazid Sikder. The mother and the baby are doing well and there is a doctor looking after them.

On behalf of the administration, the mother will be given Tk 20,000, said Rahat Mannan.
