Around 1,500 tourists are stuck at the Saint Martin’s Island as authorities stopped movement of all water transport at sea ahead of Cyclone Bulbul which is approaching Bangladesh.
The maritime ports have been advised to raise local cautionary signal 4 after which the district administrator decided to halt movement of water transport on Friday (Nov 8).
“Seven ships operate in this route. The tourists at the island are safe,” said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Teknaf region official Amjad Hossain.
He added that the steps were taken so as to avoid accidents caused by unfavourable weather conditions.
Saint Martin police outpost Inspector Azmir Elahi said that it is being ensured that the tourists don’t face any kind of harassment.
