A madrasa student from Khulna city was allegedly gang-raped by her boyfriend and his friends in Faridpur earlier this month, according to police.
The mother of the 14-year-old filed a case against five people in this regard, with Khan Jahan Ali police station in Khulna city on Sunday (Oct 20) afternoon, OC Md Kabir Hossain of the police station said.
Police arrested the prime accused, 20-year-old college student Zakir, soon after the case was filed, the police official added.
According to police, Zakir, a resident of Shiromoni Uttarpara in Khulna city, developed a romantic relationship with the madrasa student six months ago.
On Oct 8, Zakir called her over the phone to meet up, and took her to Faridpur, with the promise of marrying her.
On Oct 17, the girl returned home, ill, and told her family that Zakir and his friends had raped her in Faridpur, the police official quoted the survivor’s mother as saying.
As the girl’s health condition deteriorated, her family took her to Khulna Medical College Hospital on Oct 18.
"We are working to arrest the other accused," Kabir Hossain, who is also the investigation officer (IO) in the case, added.
