Tuhin HasanThe mother of Tuhin Hasan who was brutally murdered in Derai upazila of Sunamganj has demanded capital punishment for her husband and brother-in-law who were allegedly involved.
Five-year-old Tuhin’s own family including his father reportedly killed him over a local dispute to frame the opposition.
“I want capital punishment for them. None of my children are safe with them,” Tuhin’s mother Monira Begum told Bangla Tribune over the phone.
She said that she was sleeping with her newborn baby on Oct 13, when she woke up to the screams of the people around her and saw his body hanging on the tree.
Tuhin's mutilated body covered in blood was left hanging from a tree near the family’s house, after being stabbed with his throat slit and ears and genital cut-off. The killers also left two knives they used to kill him jammed in his abdomen.
Police later detained seven of Tuhin's family members - his father Abdul Basir, his uncles Mowlana Abdul Mosabbir, Jomshed Mia, Nasir and Zakirul, his aunt Khoirun Begum and cousin Tania -for questioning.
Tuhin’s mother filed a case against 10 people including his father and uncles.
On Oct 15, a court remanded Abdul Basir and his two siblings Abdul Mosabbir and Jamshed Ali and sent them to jail.
“The probe is being carried out meticulously so that the court can deliver maximum punishment,” said Investigating officer Nazrul Islam.
According to local Abdul Aziz two parties in the village have an ongoing dispute that has been going on for years and had cost lives before.
On one side is former union council member Anawar and on the other is Tuhin’s uncle Musabbir.
He said that in 2001 a farmer named Mujibur was killed and in 2015 a housewife named Nilufa was killed over this dispute.
Tuhin’s father was accused in the farmer’s murder while 16 people from Anwar’s side were accused in the housewife’s killing.
