Two killed in Barishal road crash

Representational imageA head-on collision between a bus, carrying Barishal University students, and a three-wheeler passenger vehicle has left two people killed.
Four others have been hospitalised in the crash around 11.30am on Tuesday (Oct 15) on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway at near the southern city’s Boidya Para.
The deceased victims have been identified as 70-year-old Abdul Khalek and 30-year-old ‘Nipa’, said Sub Inspector Nazmul Huda of the police camp at Barishal’s Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The police officer said six people were brought to the hospital from the scene in critical conditions. “Khalek was declared dead on arrival while Nipa succumbed to her injuries at the ICU around 12.45pm.”
All of the victims were travelling on the three-wheeler passenger vehicle.
The Barishal University has opened an inquiry over the crash involving one of its buses for transporting students to the campus.
“Officials rushed to the scene soon after the accident. Necessary actions will be taken after their findings are available. Police have seized the bus,” said Assistant Professor Mehedi Hasan, who is in charge of the transportation pool.
