In Joyopurhat, the locals are using one road for a long time and though the road is not wide, all types of vehicles use this road, resulting in gridlocks every day. To ease the situation, work began last year to turn the road into a four lane one.
On Sept 30 last year, MP of Joypurhat-2, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud, inaugurated the work. But the development work has been suspended since then.
At a cost of Tk 1.64 billion the Joypurhat-Bogura road extension plan was taken.
Following approval at ECNEC, work orders were given to two construction firms on Dec 24, 2017 and June 27, 2018 but the work hasn’t seen any progress.
A request was sent to the authority requesting for a raise in the budget that would require an additional Tk 600 million.
Joypurhat’s former upazila chairman A S M Moktadir Titas, says: “Since there is only one road, the situation is dire as it’s clogged most of the time; people have become disillusioned with the project and want to see action, not words.”
Executive engineer of Joypurhat, Tanvir Siddik, says: “The work of the extension of Joypourhat-Bogura road has seen progress; only the four lane work is stuck, awaiting ECNEC approval; it will be cleared next month and then we will be able to work.”
