Rifat murder: Court orders to seize assets of eight fugitive suspects

Rifat Sharif was hacked to death to death in broad daylight in front of his wife in Barguna on Wednesday (Jun 26).The Barguna court has ordered to seize all kinds of assets of eight fugitive suspects in the murder of Shahnewaz Rifat Sharif.

On Thursday (Oct 3), the court of Judicial Magistrate Sirazul Islam Gazi passed the order before denying bail to two defendants, including prime suspect Rifat Farazi.

The court has set Oct 16 for the next hearing.

The seven suspects, who are in now jail, as well suspect on bail Ayesha Siddiki Minny and Aryan Srabon appeared before the court, said plaintiff counsel Mujibul Haque.

“The court denied bail to Riaft Farazi and ‘Tik Tok Hridoy’ and ordered seizing assets of fugitive suspects Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, Musa Bond, Rifat Hawlader, Raihan, Nayeem, Rakibul Hasan, Neyamat, Sayeed Maruf Billah and Prince Molla,” he added.

On Sept 1, police pressed formal charges against 24 people, including Aysha Siddika Minny, over the daylight murder of her husband Rifat Sharif in Barguna.

Minny, who had been the No. 1 witness in the case started by Rifat’s father Dulal Shorif, is mentioned as the 7th accused in the charge-sheet while Rifat Forazi, a relative of Barguna District Council Chairman Delwar Hossain, as the No. 1 suspect.

Refat was hacked to death on Jun 26 on a Barguna road. A video of Minny's desperate attempts to save her husband went viral on social media. The following day, Refat’s father Dulal accused 12 people in the case over the murder.

The case took a new turn after Dulal pointed the finger at Minny.
