Mother sells child for Tk 50,000 to repay loan

Police present the 3 arrested women before media on Tuesday (Oct 1).A woman has been arrested in Feni after she filed a fabricated case over the abduction of her 11-month-old-son, who she sold off to another woman for only Tk 50,000 after failing to repay a loan.
Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested two more women in connection with the incident.
Feni police OC Alamgir Hossain said a case was filed against the trio on Monday (Sept 30).
Feni DB police, who were investigating the abduction case, also rescued the child from Kalaraita village of Senbagh upazila in Noakhali early Monday, said DB Inspector Ranjit Kumar Barua.
The arrestees have been identified as Rehana Akter, mother of the child, Parvin Akter, both residents of Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla; and Parvin's sister Mafia Akter, of Kalaraita village.
Ranjit said Rehana filed the abduction case with Feni model police station on Sept 20.
According to the case statement, Rehana claimed her youngest son was kidnapped in Mohipal area of Feni town on her way to her father's house in Feni from Nangalkot on the day.
At one stage of the investigation, Rehana admitted she sold the baby to Parvin only to repay her loan.
Relatives of Rehana said she borrowed Tk 50,000 from a local cooperative society.
Md Alauddin, father of the child, said although his wife told him that their son was abducted, he did not believe the incident.
"I told police about my suspicion and they rescued my son," he said.
