Though the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujiur Rahman University of Science and Technology (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj was closed, the students’ movement is still going on demanding the removal of the VC Dr Khondokar Nasir Uddin Ahmed.
Due to a state of unrest, police have been deployed across the campus.
Proctor Dr Basir Uddin Ahmed said: “Although the students were ordered to leave, they are still in their dorms and we don’t want to antagonize them.”
On Saturday (Sept 21), Assistant Proctor Humayun Kabir resigned over the assault and injuring of 20 students by outsiders.
Dr Basir Uddin was then made vice proctor and he said: “We tried to reach a compromise with the teachers but they refused to talk.”
Condemning the attack on students by outsiders, he said: “A three-member probe team has been formed with Professor Dr Abdur Rahim, dean of the Electronics and Electrical Engineering department, as head.”
The students still in fear of attacks from outsiders.
The temporary expulsion of a second year law student and campus journalist Fatema-tuz-Zinia triggered the campus agitation.
Later, students began their protests, demanding the withdrawal of the expulsion order on Fatema and the removal of the VC.
