Election Commision Office, ChattogramThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) suspects that the ‘lost’ laptop in Chattogram which was being used to make voters list was later used to make false NIDs for the Rohingyas.
Assistant director of ACC’s combined office Chattogram-2, Ratan Kumar Das, says: “A few laptops, used in updating voters list, have been reported lost since 2015 and these may have been used to make NIDs.”
No GD was lodged at the police station on behalf of the Election Commission (EC) and the licenses of the laptops should have been cancelled, he commented.
Chattogram district election official Munir Hossain, said: “This is an old incident and we are not certain about the number of laptops lost and the number may be between 3 and 4.”
Ratan Kumar Das said: “The Rohingyas are getting NIDs due to a collusion between EC officials and local representatives because NID information cannot be uploaded without licensed computers.”
So far, 46 fake NID’s have been detected, he observed.
“The Mansurabad divisional passport office has given us a list of 54 Rohingyas and we will investigate as to how they got the NIDs,” added Das.
