Shovon’s father is the Kurigram, Bhurungamari Upazila general secretary for the Awami League.

“The accusations against my son are embellished and exaggerated,” he said.
On accusations of his son demanding Tk 20 million as extortion from Jahangirnagar University VC, his father said: “Shovon doesn’t know anything about it; Rabbani has said that Shovon was not aware of the matter.”
Regarding Shovon’s removal from the post, his father observed: “the leader has done what she has thought to be the best action; she put them in the positions and has removed them for a reason.”
Amid various controversies and allegations, Shovon and Golam Rabbani were removed as president and general secretary.
While briefing reporters after Saturday’s Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban, party general secretary Obaidul Quader said they have been asked to step down.
He, however, said the present committee will remain in force and First Vice-President Al Nahean Khan Joy and First Joint Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee were given the charge of acting BCL president and acting general secretary respectively.
